The microphone that Cardi B hurled into a concert crowd at Drai’s Beachclub on the Las Vegas Strip on Saturday, July 29, is now a piece of pop culture history that can be yours for $90,900. after 76 bids on eBay as of Wednesday morning.
“It was pretty easy to track down the mic after the show because the white tape across the bottom of it says ‘main,’ and it still works despite Cardi chucking it into the crowd,” Scott Fisher, owner of The Wave, told TMZ.
Fisher claims that proceeds from the sale will benefit two charities, the Wounded Warrior Project, which raises money for injured military veterans, and a local Vegas charity called Friendship Circle Las Vegas, that benefits teens and young adults with special needs.
Cardi B was performing in intolerable Vegas heat and had previously asked the crowd to douse her with water to cool her off. But she lost her cool when someone threw a plastic cup of liquid and ice at her, and retaliated by turning her mic into a projectile.
Videos of the mic toss, such as TMZ‘s below, have gone viral.
No Repercussions So Far
Cardi B is now the subject of a police report filed by a woman who says she was struck by the mic. So far, no charges were announced by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.
Cardi B’s method of retaliation is becoming a bad habit for the rapper, who was born Belcalis Marlenis Almánzar 30 years ago. It was actually the second microphone she flung to make a point this weekend in Vegas.
On Friday at Drai’s, as revealed in , Cardi B launched a microphone at her DJ after performing her 2018 hit “I Like It.” According to a commenter on the video, she was unhappy that her songs were being cut off too early.
Throw Business
Audience members hurling objects at the stage has become an alarming new method of audience interactivity.
On July 20, rapper Drake took a vape pen to the body at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. And last month, singer Pink was pelted by the bagged cremains of a fan’s mother while performing in London.
Also in June, Harry Styles was beaned in the face by an unknown object while performing in Austria. This was less than a month after his face caught a bouquet of flowers in the UK. Last November, Styles was also the victim of an orange Skittle to the eye, which prompted the candy manufacturer to tweet: “Didn’t think I needed to say this: Please don’t throw Skittles.”
The only serious injury sustained (so far) was a black eye and stitches received by country singer Bebe Rexha after being clocked with a mobile phone in New York in June.
Earlier this month, resident Caesars Palace singer Adele railed the trend with an apparently only-half-joking threat.
“I (expletive) dare you to throw something at me,” she told her audience. “I’ll (expletive) kill you!”
