Heard the NBA arena itself is $1 bil which is double T Mobile, why is it so expensive? As for MLB stadium, Kaval is still stringing us around with his “5 vegas sites” and not mentioning where they are. But I assume its directly on the strip corridor. My personal guesses are Tropicana hotel land (will be redevloped I guess), Ruffin’s festival grounds plot near circus circus, the Rio’s backlot (unlikely, its a weird site to be wedged back there), The Wild Wild West site (near strip just across the 15, but oh boy traffic), 5th site I have no idea, maybe one of wynn’s or backlot of Ballys.

After it operated for several months, they moved the goal posts and claimed they’d never start their expansion into Orlando. After construction started, they again moved the goal posts and said they’d never go to Disney World. After they signed a deal with Disney for an on-site station, they moved the goal posts and said they’d never go to Tampa. Now that Brightline has purchased real estate in Tampa, they are scrambling for another place to put those goal posts.

I predict a similar fate with the Brightline West project. Those that think it won’t happen (probably) don’t understand their business model. They are as much a real estate developer as they are a transportation provider.

Thanks for the catch! Agree very much with the too much of a good thing. We’re already veering from Las Vegas enough. The Knights gave all these guys a distorted view of how sports will do here. It was lightning in a bottle.

I assume it’s 2,000 rooms.

An NBA team in Vegas does nothing for me, but like it or not, sports deniers, it’s a big deal to land pro sports. The cost to do so is a bit nauseating, especially when taxpayers build the playground for the billionaire owners and millionaire players, but tax breaks to big corporations that have nothing to do with sports are a thing, too. That Raiders subsidy is too much to choke down, but sports are an added draw to a major metro area. The question is, when is it too much, even for Vegas? You think Detroit has to compete with the volume of non-sports entertainment Vegas teams will compete against? Guess again, Charlie.
Landing the four major pro sports is often viewed as a good thing. In Vegas the arrival of MLB and NBA teams could be too much of a good thing.
For now, Stu dubs this good news.

We do have open space to develop whatever we want?.we also have areas that need to be redeveloped (Neon City) or even Cashman Center, but that would require the City to pursue new development, which it doesn’t seem to want, except closer to downtown. The area between The Strip and Downtown needs something shiny and new, to better link DTLV and The Strip.
