I’d gladly sign up for BlueSky, but some people haven’t gotten the memo yet.

the economy is bad, so we are told again and again and again, yet many low-level employers have to pay more than ever to get labor. why is Taytay Swift responsible for all that LiveNation revenue…. because people don’t have money for tickets? ha! how much are people overpaying for the privilege of NFL tickets in most markets across the country? prices go up, demand doesn’t go down. this economy is doing just fine…. but there are only so many people willing to pay $472 to torture themselves for an entire April day in Vegas listening to Napalm Death, the Hives and the Sisters of Mercy. Festivals are harder to do because everybody gets paid more, but fewer people want to spend $500+ for a day of live music just to see Metallica sing about the bell tolling, again. Metallica, by the way, just fleeced America on a stadium tour this past summer, as you well know. nobody to blame for the economy, it’s actually doing fine, regardless of why you think eggs are $5/dozen. there just aren’t enough people paying $500 to stand around and drink $8 bottled water while waiting for Meshuggah to finish its set so that they can stand around and wait for the Flaming Lips to finish boring the crowd with songs about how she doesn’t use jelly.

The promoter has to factor in production cost. Property rental, Stage rental, audio, lighting, security, porta potty, backstage dressing rooms(trailers), electricity, water, ground transportation for artists, hotel rooms in the hundreds, backstage catering, band riders (whatever food or drink they want backstage) and of course, local crew. All these things would run in the millions per day so ya can’t hate Live Nation for pulling the plug, it’s the economy plus band pricing that makes tickets cost so much and if your not selling, no party. More than anything it’s economy. blame who ya like but when a bag of potato chips is 6 dollars, there’s trouble for everyone.

Swift could be singlehandedly responsible for the Live Nation record revenue. Remove her from the equation, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see their sales flat or even down. Also, 2022 was kind of the first year back after COVID for a lot of acts, and many weren’t out there touring yet. So, for 2023 to be higher than 2022 probably didn’t take a lot of effort.
