I’m from Liverpool UK 82yrs
First time in Vegas 1990 and fell in love with the place.
Been every year staying for as long as six weeks up until 2019 when my wife was diagnosed with LBD.
Always stayed in the royal hotel and casino whose name changed three times and has since closed.
Our favourite casino for slots was the Stardust which unfortunately closed 2006 if I remember rightly.
We then changed to the Riviera and finally to Circus.
Our best win was in the Stardust, boxing day 2002 when we were there for two weeks Christmas and new year.
We cleared 13000dollars on that night, but it was the only time in approximately 60 visits that we came home with a profit but we absolutely loved the place and our dirty hands.
From what l’ve heard l believe that Vegas is a bit of a rip off now and caters mainly for the young.
No more elderly with oxygen tanks on their scooters ha ha.
My wife passed away February 2024 and l’m not fit enough to go back one more time but l will always remember the great times we had over 30yrs

And don’t forget the Cummins JetSort ritual when you took your coin bucket to the cashier, certain it’s heavier than when you started playing IGT Black Tie 2-coin with 4 rolls of quarters. The cashier dumps the coins into the hopper, the red LED digits reset from $12,537.75 (lucky bastard) to $00.00 and she hits the switch. Heart rate starts to climb as the numbers tick up: $39.25 and the remaining quarters are clinking just as loudly. $98.75. The noise starts to fade. $110.75. Still going! $124.25. The clatter falls silent as the cashier dispenses three quarters from the till and tosses them into the hopper: $125.00. She powers down the machine and smiles as she introduces you to Mr. Franklin, President Jackson and Honest Abe.

Those were the days.

I’m not a big gambler and don’t do local casinos. What I do is plan a annual trip to Las Vegas, sometimes twice a year.

I’m only interested is playing Wheel of Fortune at some casinos, but my favorite is the $1 coin machines at Circus Circus.

Lots of people saw they refuse to pay a $1 at a time. But if you think about the new video type machines, even if they start with 1c, 2c etc., for you to win a good amount you will need to play anywhere from 75- 750. How many dollars does those pennies or quarters add up to????

The dollar coin slots and all others at Circus Circus are now located across the breezeway with it’s front entrance on Las Vegas Blvd just left of Circus Circus front entrance.

I make it my preference to play their $1 machines and I haven’t been disappointed.

As soon as I was old enough to go to a casino, at 18 (some casino not in Vegas) I went looking for an old school machine. I looked around the casino forever. Then finally asked someone and they said they only had the ticket machines. I have gone to many casinos across the US and nada. I agree with many others here that casinos need to bring back a couple old school machines. Yes they’re a pain to maintain, but not only for the nostalgia factor, but for the younger people that never even got a chance. We grew up watching tv shows and movies that had them, then go to a casino thinking we’ll get to play one just to be disappointed.
Thank you for this article. Next time I go to Vegas I know where I’m stopping by!

We live in California. We are trying to sell a $1 coin slot machine that we purchased in Las Vegas. If all else fails we will just have to put it in the game room that we have not yet built!!! Overall slots are very entertaining for guests in a residential setting.

All casinos in vegas need to go back to the coin payout instead of the ticket they would be packed all the time they are taking the fun and nostalgia of vegas away just ask anyone take a survey vegas should give people what they want we are the ones traveling there and spending our money.You can play the indian casinos anywhere and get paid by a stupid ticket.If vegas wants to be vegas again then bring back the old way of paying out coins and watch the people flock back inti vegas again.PLEASE GIVE YOUR CUSTOMERS THAT COME TO GAMBLE WHAT THEY WANT!!
